Arctic Cat is dropping the word “Blast” out of the name of its mid-sized ZR 400, but it stays in the Blast platform. It’s a roughly 7/8th-size chassis that’s powered by a 397cc fuel-injected single that makes about 65 horsepower.

This heavy-duty sled is designed with the most difficult tasks in mind- hauling, towing and climbing through the snow.

Riot crossover lineup sees expansion of the exciting new 858 two-stroke in Catalyst models, the return of a four-stroke in the ProCross chassis and some renaming of the single-cylinder machines. The Riot X platform disappears, and the Sno Pro shock option is found here in its stead. ATAC shock buyers get the G8 touchscreen gauge as standard equipment while buyers of other packages can upgrade to the gauge. These Riots all come with the uncoupled Cross-Action rear suspension and a 39-inch center-distance stance between G2 skis.

The Riot 400 is the new name for the previous Blast XR 400. Returning features include the smaller/tighter chassis, 65-horsepower single-cylinder engine, narrow 38-inch front end and long Slide-Action rear suspension that is wrapped by a 146-inch Cobra track with 1.6-inch lugs.

What used to be called the Blast XR 400 Touring, is now going to be the Riot 400 Touring. It shares its chassis and rear suspension with the XR 400. However, it gets a passenger seat, a 40-inch ski stance and 1.25-icnh lugs on a 146-inch RipSaw track.

The ProCross-based Riot 9000 gives buyers the turbocharged 998cc triple with a 15- by 146- by 1.35-inch Cobra track. That track is a nice match to harness the roughly 200 horsepower. Its track length and the uncoupled design of the Cross-Action skid frame are about the only features that puts this machine in the Riot category, however. The Riot 9000 trail-width stance is adjustable between 41.5 and 43.5 inches. It comes standard with a heated seat. It even benefits from electronic power steering. It is a long, heavy but very fun trail machine.

The base M layout will be available with either the returning 600 twin or the new-for-2025 858 twin. The regular package will wear Arctic Cat’s own IFP shocks with a 1.5-inch bore on the 36-inch-wide front suspension and the front and back of the unique Alpha One rear. Buyers of the Sno Pro package upgrade will get the new, five-position AC5S shocks all around, with the Lockout feature available on the rear arm. That allows for a stiffer rear end that comes in handy when climbing steep ascents. We’re still awaiting exact details on the AC5S shocks.

The smallish Blast platform returns as a non-intimidating starting point for newcomers, teenagers, smaller riders, and those who prefer finesse over outright power. Sixty-five horses are generated by the single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine that was based on the old 800 twin. Its driveline includes CVTech clutches and a chain case as the final drive. The track is a 146-inch Challenger with 2-inch lugs. Shocks on the 36-inch front and Alpha One rear are all baseline hydraulic twin tube units.
